Sometimes its useful to work things backwards, starting off with we are here. How did ‘we’ get here? There are only two serious contenders as an answer to that question. One is as the result of some super being’s(god type) activities. The other is the result of evolution from way back when single celled ocean creatures were all that seemed to be life on Earth. This last might be called the voice of reason, but is it?
Actually, not at all. The chances of us, modern man, being here on this earth, from the start of the Big Bang are, at most, 1 in a 2,500 digit number. Now if you divide 1 by a 2,500 digit number, that means you are going to have 2,499 zeros following the decimal point. How close to zero do you want to get? Is it reasonable to accept such a ridiculously low chance as being correct? Obviously not.
Hey hang on a minute, you might well say, where do you magic this 2,500 digit number from? Simple, the chances of 10 events being in a particular sequence are given by 10 factorial (usually written 10!) meaning 10 x 9 x 8 x 7 x 6 x 5 X 4 x 3 x 2 x 1=3,628,800. If there were 100 links in the Chain of Life, then the chance would be given by1/100!
Clearly there are more than 100 events that had to happen in sequence between the Big Bang and us being here. I don’t know how many there are, but 1,000 would seem on the small side, as first you have to get the Earth being formed. Now 1,000!
has a maximum of 2,500 digits, some mathematicans gave me that figure, I didn’t know how to work it out.
In short, reason, as given by Science, does not seem to provide a correct answer, so where does that leave us, still being here??
