Hillary’s record makes herself vulnerable to attack ads, no matter who’s running them. It’s not Bernie’s fault that it’s so easy to come up with material for an attack ad. If she wins the primary, it’s going to get a whole lot worse. That’s bad, not just for her, but for the Democratic Party’s chances of making Congressional gains on downticket races. Hillary’s vulnerabilities risk dragging down the entire Democratic ticket.
A lot of Bernie’s strength as a candidate comes from being far less vulnerable to attack ads. His record is a lot more consistent and he has maintained a much cleaner image than Hillary. You might say that’s because he hasn’t got his hands as dirty doing the messy business of actually getting policy through. Nevertheless, polls indicate that Bernie Sanders is a much stronger candidate in any possible general election matchup.
Karl Rove is going to be running any and all attack ads that’re possible. That’s because he believes in the Republican Party’s platform and is willing to do anything to see it win. Bernie has nothing to do with it at all.
