The Spectacular Now

Plot:

Sutter Keely (Miles Teller) goes through a break-up with his “perfect” girlfriend and struggles. Sutter’s a kid known for being a goofball, but one that secretly is seeking direction for his life. After a long night of partying, Keely wakes up in the middle of a lawn, and is awoken by Aimee Finicky, played by Shailene Woodley (call me). Aimee helps get him home, and agrees to tutor Keely(haha nice), who’s struggling in math. The girl falls for him, and trouble ensues. Sutter struggles with his feelings towards Aimee, who’s never had a boyfriend before, and those he holds towards his ex. A classic coming-of-age story, Keely has to juggle the weight of his future along with the weight of his heart.

Review:

A solid film, but not for those who’ve recently gone through a break-up. Side note- How long has Shailene Woodley been playing a teenager in movies/tv shows? She was on secret life of the American teenager back in the day, still looks the same? Nice. Miles Teller seems like he plays the same character in every movie, but I don’t mind it. It’s like Vince Vaughn, it just works for him. Shailene plays the part of an everyday ordinary girl to the tee, which is interesting considering this just happened.

All in all a strong film, 7.5/10

Reflection:

I’m struggling writing this part without getting too sappy, so I’ll just say that The Spectacular Now nails highschool sweetheart teenage love. Bullseye. I found the movie to be highly relatable, maybe that’s why I enjoyed it.

Hope you enjoyed this, The Spectacular Now is now streaming on HBO

I’ll make sure to do films on other services too but HBO is the shit.
