Wisdom insides the Chinese calendar

In a traditional Chinese calendar, Lunar date is often shown next to the Gregorian date. The lunar date is written in Chinese number and it is easy to be identified if you are learning Chinese. 1st day of the lunar month is 初一, 2 is 初二 and 3 is 初三 (Pronounced as “Chu Yi”, “Chu Er” and “Chu San”). Lunar calendar is based on the moon phases. With no moon on the 1st day of the lunar month as the moon moves into a line with the earth and the sun. Full moon appears on 15th of the lunar month, 十五 (Pronounced as “Shi Wu”), which is the middle of the month. The moon cycle is a little more than 29 days, some lunar months have 29 days or 30 days and the number of days change year by year.

In addition to these Chinese number, have you ever noticed there are some little Chinese characters written on some dates in a month?

The 24 Solar Terms

They are called the 24 Solar Terms which are evenly distributed in 4 seasons.

On 30th November 2016, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) officially included China’s 24 Solar Terms in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
