What if there is a movie tells about the DC Universe fight against The Avengers? That could be a unique movie from differences franchise. They don’t have any connection at all and they have their own fiction words. Besides of a franchise, there is also a film that doesn’t have any sequel at all, and only have one universe. It’s called a Standalone movie. Franchise and Standalone movie have each other purposes. This essay will explain more about Franchise and Standalone Movie.

Franchise

Franchise movie is a movie collection which has stories from the same universe. It also knows as the movie series. They made because of the fans who are consistent to follow the franchise. Marvel Cinematic Universe is the example of a franchise. MCU has many movies according to their types. Each Franchise gets great success. That is why MCU fans are always impatient to wait for every next Marvel movie release.

Because fans like the franchise that much, they, usually, have merch. The merch is like toys, books, t-shirts, and any other merch. Besides, they also have their fantasy world, such as the Harry Potter World in Universal Studio.

There are many types of Franchise: Sequel, Prequel, Remake, Reboot, Spin-off, and Crossover.

Standalone

A movie that the story doesn’t have the connection with any other fiction universe, then the movie called a Standalone movie. The standalone movie wasn’t planned to make a franchise. The example is The Boys in Striped Pajamas. If you’ve watched the film, you will know it designed to be a standalone movie.

A standalone movie can also make a franchise. There are two types of the standalone movie: standalone sequel and standalone spinoff. Standalone sequel happens when the next movie hasn’t any connection with the previous story. For example, in the story of Toy Story 4, the story doesn’t have any connection with Toy Story 1 until Toy Story 3. Meanwhile, a standalone spin-off made by focusing the story on the minor character. For example, the story of The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift in the Fast & Furious franchise.

That’s are the differences between the franchise and the standalone movie. The differences are only at the quantity of the stories in term of the same universe. The quantity of franchise is more than the standalone movie. The standalone movie only stands with one movie. So, the viewers can distinguish a universe in a film that has a collection of stories and a film that has its own story.
