Today, I Choose Happiness
We’re days away from Thanksgiving and two years ago, I wrote this odd post about how emotional this time of the year can be for me.
Then I took a look at some other posts I’ve written and they all seem to have this somber tone to them… I’m going to use this blanket statement and say that I was in a different place in my life.
My current mantra: We have one life. Just one. Make it count.
I’m currently reading this great op-ed in the New York Times on choosing to be grateful. As I’m reading it (or should I say tweeting it), so much of what Arthur writes resonates with me.
Choosing to focus on good things makes you feel better than focusing on bad things.
There is a little more than a month left of 2015 and I can (almost) confidently say it has been one of the best years yet.
Why? Because I chose happiness.
Sure, this year was riddled with late nights at work, missed birthdays (FOMO), heartbreak, self-doubt, “stress” and feeling “overwhelmed”… you know, the usual.
BUT — I put myself out there. I took risks. And I said yes to life.
In the end, it was all worth it.
How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives. -Annie Dillard
Every day, we have a choice. What will you choose?
