This is difficult… race issues are never black and white — pun intended — especially when dealing with the arts.
I tend to stand by the notion that everyone has the right to create their imagination, as long as it’s not a crime. And my stance remains the same in this case.

Now this Confederate show will be threading on a line not be crossed i.e. being racist, yet at the same time, the inspiration for the story is as much part of a white person’s history as it is a black person’s.

SO, we (blacks) have the (seemingly) equal right to create an alternative story/universe from a similar inspiration: What it would be like if international slavery and it’s accompanied colonization did not succeed in Africa. Hmm?
Any takers?
I’m sure most, if no all, black persons have wondered this. I’ve heard this thought come up in related debates, and there are probably books out there on it.
So why don’t we produce MORE of our own stories, instead of telling others what not to do?
