ER bridges are identified and ascribed the same qualities as fictional worm holes in some sci fi(see sliders for an example), so popular misconception is arguably not restricted to the word wormhole. The terms can and are used interchangeably (see the first sentence of Wikipedia's article on wormholes, to which ER bridge redirects).
