Gain Insights. Join a Community. Increase Your Impact.

After a well received pilot this past March, CSSL is excited to add the Social Impact Collective to its portfolio of initiatives aimed at facilitating and guiding members in their social impact journey. Applications to join the Collective’s 2017 cohort (kicking off March 10–12, 2017) can be found at socialimpactcollective.org. The 2017 cohort will comprise of 15 people who are thoughtful and forward-looking, and who embody the Berkeley-Haas defining principles: confidence without attitude, question the status quo, beyond yourself and students always.

Gain Insights. Join a Community. Increase Your Impact.

The Social Impact Collective leverages the world-class educational assets of the Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley, and other leading institutions to guide members in their journey through philanthropy and impact investing. The Collective provides insight at the intersection of values and evidence to help members solve the problems they care most about, in strategic and effective ways. We also work with key partners to help members move from insight to action.

A Hybrid Educational Experience + Community

The Collective’s 2017 cohort experience begins with an in-person weekend (Discovery Weekend) together at the inspiring Miramar Farms in Half Moon Bay, California March 10–12, 2017. At the conclusion of the Discovery Weekend, members will have access to a custom-built, 6-week online course that helps them complete a social impact plan that will deepen the commitment and impact of their philanthropy. This platform enables members to share information, learn from each other, and access tools that shape philanthropic decisions. Coaches and mentors will also be accessible. The group will reconvene at the conclusion of the online learning segment to share their impact plans and celebrate the philanthropic commitments they make. Members will have ongoing opportunities to convene and meet subject matter experts at intimate dinners in private homes and gatherings on the Berkeley campus and around the Bay Area.

Is the Collective for You?

The Collective is ideal for high-net-worth individuals and families who seek:

  • Insight and guidance from world-class thinkers and doers in social impact.
  • An intimate cohort for support, connection, and potential collaboration.
  • A safe, confidential space free from solicitation.
  • An approach rooted in values of humility, continuous learning, and commitment to ideals greater than ourselves.

Members of the Collective reflect a broad array of experiences. We believe the greatest value comes to those who are beginning to explore their social impact activities in a serious way, and for seasoned philanthropists and impact investors who welcome an opportunity to step back from activity to refresh their perspective on giving. Our Members have a wide range in terms of net worth; there are no minimum requirements but Members are expected to have the means to give or invest in a meaningful way. Couples and family members are encouraged to attend together.

How Do I Join the Collective?

Becoming a member in the Collective starts with an application to join. Applicants who are accepted make a one time contribution of $10,000, of which $9,000 counts as a tax-deductible gift to UC Berkeley which allows the Center to continue offering the Discovery Weekend on an ongoing basis. Lodging and meals for the weekend are included with Membership. The application to join, details about the agenda, and frequently asked questions can be found on the website.
