What to expect: Day 2 in Nepal

Ahead of our Nepal Marathon, we guide you through your second day on the trip…

Your week in Nepal will be high energy, and in this spirit you’ll be up and moving at around 6:30am on your second day; ready to get out and explore on your project visits. The day will kick off with a buffet breakfast at the hotel — you can expect all the usual ingredients, with awesome Nepali twists.

Many of the charities that we are supporting through the UN Global Goals are based in and around Kathmandu. Now is the time for you to see, feel and understand the impact you have made on these communities. You will be broken down into groups depending on your chosen Global Goal and then into teams of 10, ready to head out to visit one of the projects we are supporting.

On arrival you will be introduced to the incredible work that the organisations are undertaking in challenging conditions. You could be doing anything, from hospital visits with Burns Violence Survivors to getting dirty with Clean Up Nepal. Whatever you are doing, you’ll come away understanding so much more about who the fundraising has helped and how it will change the lives of Nepalis across the community.

You’ll receive a locally made lunch of Dal Bhat, which is a wonderful mix of gentle spices, rice and lentil based curries. You wont find it too spicy, that’s not the Nepali way, but it will be full of flavour and colour and we know you’ll love it.

After lunch you will continue your work through the afternoon until around 4pm — then it’s back on the bus, leaving behind the bustle and craziness of the city and making the winding journey upwards to our specially created, pop-up Athlete’s Village. This amazing spot will be your home for the remainder of the trip.

Getting off the bus, you are greeted by the stunning sight of the Himalayan mountains, vast and imposing. As you look out over rolling foothills that stretch into the distance you feel humbled — but as you look skyward and see the 8000m behemoths in the distance you feel overawed. It’s an unforgettable feeling. You have truly arrived in Nepal. Welcome!

The evening is completed by watching the sunset, and by a big dinner where you can acclimatise to your new environment with your companions. Your accommodation for the week will be big scout tents. You’ll have enough room to swing a baby ox should you wish to, and you’ll be very comfortable; your bedding keeping you snug and warm as the night draws in.

The tardis of the tent world

As you lie in your tent you’ll be amazed by the silence and peacefulness of the camp. After a busy day you’ll soon be nodding off. Sleep well, and see you in the morning…
