Polestar 2 Review. Which EV sedan should I buy?
If you are on the market to buy an EV sedan, you get more options than ever. Here, I will do a quick review of Polestar 2 and how it compass to Tesla Model 3.
The Built Quality (Polestar 2: 1 & Model 3: 0)
This is an easy one. I mean Tesla’s build quality is so bad that it is really hard to do anything worse. Anything that needs to be aligned is not aligned. For example, most common issue I see with Teslas is the door alignment even the high end Teslas suffer from this. If you care about such things, Tesla is not for you, run! On the other hand, Polestar2 seems to be a lot higher quality than Model 3.
Displays: Polestar (2: 1 & Model 3: 0)
As you all know, Model 3 is one of the most minimalistic car and it does not have behind the wheel screen. So you always have to take your eyes from the road to check the directions. I think this design is okay, once it is all autonomous and I am not driving but as is I still think behind the wheel screen is essential to have. When you are driving, having the directions right in front of you makes the navigation easier. So if you are like me, Polestar 2 is a better option for you.
Voice Commands (Polestar 2: 1 & Model 3: 0)
This is the most amazing part of Polestar 2 experience. Polestar 2 uses Google Assistant to enable the voice commands. Google inarguably has one of the best in natural language processing technology. So it actually works. And when you are giving commands, you do not have to be very specific in your language. It tries to understand what you are telling and often time it gets it right. I always wish my Tesla were to at least have basic voice command like turn on/off the AC. But far from it :( On the other hand,
In your Polestar 2, all you have to do is to say “Turn on AC”. Is it too high? Then say “Turn fan down” . Do you wanna go home? Just say “Take me home”
Interior Design (Subjective cannot be scored)
This is probably the most subjective topic irregardless of technology and build quality. If your style is more classic and you are looking for more luxury and comfort, Polestar 2 is for you. It combines technology with more traditional looking interior. It definitely looks a lot richer than Model 3.
Cargo Space (Polestar 2: 1 & Model 3: 1)
Polestar 2 has a decent size trunk but frunk was somewhat smaller than what I expected. Overall it is comparable to Model 3.
Two years free charging with Polestar 2
Currently, Polestar 2 is offering two years free charing on Electrify America networks as an incentive. And it takes about 30 minutes to get 80% charge.
All in all, I think Polestar 2 is a great alternative to Model 3. For people who are looking for a good built quality and more luxurious feel, Polestar 2 is definitely for you.Go give it a try and see. Compare to Lucid, its price point is a lot more reasonable especially after the tax credit.
