Listen to Selena Gomez’s New Song “Lose You to Love Me”

Selena Gomez has released “Lose You to Love Me” — her first new solo single of 2019. Listen below. “This song was inspired by many things that have happened in my life since releasing my last album,” Gomez said in a statement. “I thought it was important to share the music, as I know many can relate to the fact that the road to self-discovery generally comes through the scars in one’s life. I want people to feel hope and to know you will come out the other side stronger and a better version of yourself.”

Earlier this year, Gomez released “I Can’t Get Enough” with Benny Blanco, Tainy and J Balvin. She also appeared in the Jim Jarmusch film The Dead Don’t Die.

In 2018, Gomez’s song “Back to You” was featured on the soundtrack for the second season of the Netflix show 13 Reasons Why. She released three singles in 2017: “Bad Liar” (which sampled the Talking Heads), “Fetish” featuring Gucci Mane, and “Wolves” with Marshmello. Check out her music video for “Bad Liar.”

Selena Gomez returns with self-love anthem, “Lose You to Love Me.” The singer’s last full-length album was 2015’s Revival.

Gomez reunited with frequent collaborators Justin Tranter and Julia Michaels for the piano ballad, which was also co-written by Swedish production and songwriting duo Mattman & Robin. Finneas, known best for his work with sister Billie Eilish, co-produced the song which has Gomez reflecting on how her relationship with herself became better following the end of a toxic relationship.

“This song was inspired by many things that have happened in my life since releasing my last album,” she said in a statement. “I thought it was important to share the music, as I know many can relate to the fact that the road to self-discovery generally comes through the scars in one’s life. I want people to feel hope and to know you will come out the other side stronger and a better version of yourself.”

LISTEN: Selena Gomez Says ‘Goodbye’ to a Toxic Love in Scathing New Song ‘Lose You to Love Me’

Selena Gomez is letting go of the “Same Old Love.”

The singer, 27, dropped her highly anticipated new single at midnight on Tuesday, and the scorching track gives insight into the last few years of her life.

In an accompanying music video (shot on an iPhone 11 Pro and directed by Sophie Muller), Gomez bares a range of emotions — anger, sadness, and ultimately, freedom and joy — for the camera.

“We’d always go into it blindly / I needed to lose you to find me / This dance it was killin’ me softly,” she sings on the haunting chorus.

In other verses, she seemingly alludes to her on-and-off relationship with ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber. “Set fire to my purpose and I let it burn,” she sings, a possible reference to his 2015 album Purpose.

Then in a later verse, the Gomez sings: “In two months you replaced us like it was easy.” After calling it quits again with Bieber in March 2018, the “Sorry” singer moved on quickly — and publicly — with his now-wife Hailey Baldwin, proposing to the model just months later.

“This song was inspired by many things that have happened in my life since releasing my last album,” says Gomez — who co-wrote the track — in a statement. “I thought it was important to share the music, as I know many can relate to the fact that the road to self-discovery generally comes through the scars in one’s life.”

“I want people to feel hope and to know you will come out the other side stronger and a better version of yourself,” she added.

Selena Gomez returns with her new single “Lose You to Love Me.”

The 27-year-old singer announced the song on social media last week, sharing a snippet, lyrics, and official cover art. It’s unclear if the track is a one-off or single off Gomez’s long-awaited third studio album, which was reportedly completed over the summer.

“I have to do, like, a few finishing things with [the album], but I’m just relieved,” she said during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “It took me four years now to even feel at a good place with this album, and it’s just because I had such huge moments that happened in my life personally that [it was like] how was I going to capture that and how was I actually going to feel good about what I was saying? So, I kept going and I’m relieved now.”

Gomez’s last album was 2015’s Revival. Since then, the singer-songwriter has been very vocal about her personal issues, including a lupus diagnosis, as well as her struggles with anxiety and depression. Shortly after announcing her social media hiatus last year, Gomez reportedly suffered an “emotional breakdown” and was subsequently admitted into a psychiatric facility. She returned to social media in early 2019, thanking fans for their unwavering support:
