Harry Styles Drops Dreamy New Track ‘Watermelon Sugar’ & Suddenly I Have A Sweet Tooth

Harry Styles — king of seizing the moment — just dropped a new track while hosting SNL (and doing a damn good job at it). ‘Watermelon Sugar’ is the latest offering from his upcoming album Fine Line and holy shit, it does not disappoint. You’re a whiz, Harry.

One Direction‘s most attractive member (not sorry about it) delivers on a new fruity, folky bop that will well and truly reignite your flailing sex drive — when Haz croons, “I just wanna taste it / I just wanna taste it”, I feel that. Safe to say, the internet has been sent into a frenzy. Please feast your eyes on some of the best Twitter reactions to ‘Watermelon Sugar’, AKA the soundtrack to our 2019/2020 summer.

Just one week after dropping the perfection that is “Lights Up,” Harry Styles took to social media to share what appears to be a tease of the second song of his next era.

“Kiwi walked so Watermelon Sugar could run,” the superstar tweeted on Tuesday night (Oct. 22), leading fans to believe a second fruit-titled track from the former One Direction-er is on its way. Within minutes, the rumored song title was trending worldwide on Twitter.

The potential predecessor to “Watermelon Sugar,” “Kiwi” served as the third and final single to Styles’ self-titled debut solo album, and thrived as a total fan favorite

Harry Styles Tweeted About “Watermelon Sugar” But What Does It Mean?

Everybody, please take a second to check on your local Harry Styles stan. On October 5, the singer tweeted “Do” and the internet freaked out. Then, on October 11, he released his new single “Lights Up,” and TBH, I’m still reeling from it.

Harry can’t seem to give anyone time to breathe because he just posted even more very vague content for us to figure out. Last night he tweeted: “Kiwi walked so Watermelon Sugar could run.” Excuse me sir, WHAT?!

This, once again, broke the internet. At first fans weren’t sure if he was talking about food…watermelon…sugar? Fruit salad? A candy flavor?

Thankfully, Harry’s fanbase is a force of nature and people quickly began cracking the code. “Kiwi” is likely in reference to the third single from his debut album. The song pretty much repeats the lyrics “I’m having your baby. It’s none of your business” and seems to be about some baby mama drama. It’s all fictional, though, according to an interview Harry gave to BBC Radio back in 2017.

Theories about “Watermelon Sugar” possibly being a sequel of sorts to the 2017 single have been popping up all over Twitter. I think fans might be onto something.

Only time will tell what the singer has in store for his new album. Maybe some more songs named after fruit? Until then, try to remain as calm as possible. Being a Styles stan is truly a lawless existence.

Harry Styles Drops the Song of the Summer, ‘Watermelon Sugar,’ in the Dead of Winter

Harry Styles gave us the gift of a sweet summer pop song in the dead of winter, and the cognitive dissonance of listening to lyrics about “strawberries on a summer evening” in the middle of November is weirdly thrilling. Styles released the song on streaming platforms right around the time he performed it on Saturday Night Live, in his final musical performance of the night. This is Styles’ second single from Fine Line, his upcoming sophomore album set to drop on December 13 (which just happens to be, ahem, the birthday of a certain ex of his). His first single from Fine Line was “Lights Up,” released back in October, which he performed for the first time live also on SNL tonight. We welcome you to give “Watermelon Sugar” a listen, drown your winter worries in its coy, sickly sweet guitar hook, and mark your calendars for December 13.

Harry Styles releases new song ‘Watermelon Sugar’ after SNL gig

Harry Styles has released his latest single, “Watermelon Sugar”, following his appearance on Saturday Night Live.

The former One Direction star and now solo artist was given the rare honour of both hosting and performing on the late-night show, which included more than a few gags about the boy band.

“Watermelon Sugar” is the second track taken from Styles’ forthcoming second solo album, Fine Line, which is being released in December.

It follows the release of “Lights Up”, and the announcement of the first string of dates for Styles’ world tour in support of the new record.

Named “Love on Tour”, the shows will launch in the UK in April 2020, with support from King Princess, followed by dates in North America and Mexico.

Harry Styles Basically Dressed Up Like a Watermelon to Sing ‘Watermelon Sugar’ on ‘SNL’

Harry Styles is officially riding a “Watermelon Sugar” high following his musical guest performance on Saturday Night Live.
After delivering a couple of One Direction jokes during his opening monologue as the show’s host on Saturday night (Nov. 16) and flexing his comedic chops in a few sketches, Styles donned a sparkling black sequined jumpsuit to sing through “Lights Up,” the first hit off his forthcoming sophomore album.

Instead of going with the highly danceable groove that made the track an instant earworm, Styles opted to change up the vibe of “Lights Up” and went with a smooth, stripped-down R&B rendition of the single instead. With little more than the piano, an acoustic guitar, a trumpet and the intricate harmonies of his back-up singers, Styles belted every high note and danced to the beat of the song’s bridge.

For his second song, Styles donned a ripe, red and pink suit — a perfect choice for “Watermelon Sugar,” which he performed live merely an hour after he released the audio.

“Lights Up” may have been more subdued than the recorded track, but Styles brought all of the energy and might of the band behind him to “Watermelon Sugar.” Styles had teased the name of the tune back in October, and connected the track to “Kiwi” off his self-titled debut album with a mysterious tweet. He was clearly elated to be giving “Watermelon Sugar” its big debut, and euphorically punched the air in between verses.

Styles is set to kick off his Love On Tour trek on April 15, 2020 in Birmingham, U.K. He’ll likely be working “Watermelon Sugar” and “Lights Up” into the setlist, but it remains to be seen if he’ll be taking that watermelon suit out on the road as well.
