Thoughts on Dispatch — the best email client for iPhone. Period.
I was severaly pissed off on email clients for iPhone. Probably because of the way all of them handle links inside the emails. Since I rely so much on newsletters and articles shared via them so I really needed a better client. My defition of better was an app that allows me to save links to Pocket right from the app. The method I was using was hectic. Long press the link, copy it, open Pocket and save it using pop up at the bottom. This might not be a problem if you have a couple of links but for me it was a problem because I literally save tens of links per day.
I was delighted to find Dispatch. Dispatch does just that and a whole lot more. It integrates with about 70+ apps like Pocket, Evernote, Things, Twitter, Facebook, Text Expander etc. Now, not only I can save links to Pocket without leaving the app but also I can now follow someone right from the app, send a link to evernote and create snippets just by copying texts from email and sending it to Text Expander. This has reduced the email checking time by 3x.
The honeymoon only lasted for two days though. Gmail stopped working all that sudden. I tweeted the guys behind Dispatch but found no response. I felt like screwed. It’s a $5 app, actully. Out of disappointment I swtiched over to Inbox and found email from Google saying that they have blocked access to my email by a client. That must be Dispatch, I said. Google advised me that certain apps are harmful and I should now allow access. But since I was already addicted to Dispatch I enabled a setting to move on — I found warning from Google weird in first place (I mean since when?). And it started working again.
So, I am back on Dispatch now. My only grip with the app is that it’s not available for iPad. Otherwise this is the best email app for iOS. And it’s from Singapore. ☺
