A powerful way to change your EHS culture and the way you and your organization interact with staff and trading partners is to change your pronouns.

“I”, “We” and “You”

Instead of saying “I” when you’re ready to give out instructions, try “we.”

Instead of saying “we” when there is responsibility to be taken, try “I.”

And, every time you’re tempted to depersonalize the impact of an Incident, try “you,” while looking the impacted person in the eye.
