Now you can see all your Fitbit data in one place, here’s why that’s awesome.
Imagine walking into your doctor’s office and having a detailed dashboard you can show them that gives them deeper insight into your overall health. It’s more than just numbers from a blood draw once a year, it’s a daily peak into your health and habits. It’s shows how many minutes you’re sitting on your butt every day or how many hours you are sleeping a night, actually. Imagine what insights they could pull from that to help make decisions about your health.
It’s not some complicated procedure to put something like this together. This tutorial shows you just how to implement the project. Easy step-by-step instructions that don’t require any code to create. All you need is a Fitbit device, an Initial State account, and an IFTTT account. You get to decide what data you want to track and how you want to visualize it.
Fitbit is a great way to keep track of your movement, sleep, and health. The app gives you a nice summary of all your daily activity. The only downside is that it leaves you wanting more. I want to be able to view my trends, compare my days, see even more information. Initial State can help you do just that.
Using IFTTT and your Fitbit, you can send all your data to an Initial State dashboard. This will allow you to visualize your data, in more ways than just seeing numbers on a screen. The power of mapping values to emojis creates a visual tool for instant update into your fitness goals. The Tiles allow you to customize your dashboard to your liking, and when you get bored with that view you can change it because the design options are limitless.
The dashboard doesn’t just have to be Fitbit data either. You can stream weather data in from the DarkSky API so you can track how well you move around compared to weather outside. Or you can stream data from a food tracker and DIY smart scale to see if your diet and exercise are helping or hurting your weight goals. You can create dashboards that give you all the data you need to be able to make the right choices.
Data is a powerful tool to help you make decisions. Having all your data in one place that is easy to view is even better. Go check out my personal dashboard here and build your own dashboard following this tutorial and this video.
