Noir was officially born on September 20th, 2018 when the community voted on a rebrand of Zoin after a tumultuous new beginning ever since the original Zoin team left to work on NIX.

But the Noir team and its community have been persevering, and as someone who has been around the Zoin community since early 2018, I still see how essential Noir is as a privacy coin! All of the core features that made Zoin such a popular and well-respected privacy coin are all still here: The Zerocoin protocol that allows for true-privacy transactions to be sent by converting Noir into a temporary currency that is essentially “money-laundered” for lack of a better term, Atomic swaps that allow the exchanging of one currency into another without an intermediary such as an exchange, and of course Segwit which makes transactions faster by increasing block size, and is also the precursor to implement “lightening network” features, Web wallet privacy transactions from anywhere. The Noir team believes these are very strong foundational features for a privacy coin, and their primary mission going forward is to make Noir a more usable privacy coin.

From their roadmap here you can see that the next the update for the project is the long-awaited mobile wallet that Noir fans, as well as the original Zoin fans, have been looking forward to. Other updates include WordPress plugins so Noir can be used one day to pay for things, instant payment through QR codes, getting Noir into an existing crypto credit card. Also, the Noir team wants to keep focusing on community features as well, with features like community voting within the Noir wallet to get accurate consensus within the community.

Personally, I am very much looking forward to the mobile wallet! One of Noir’s best features, in my opinion, has always been its beautiful looking wallets. After the release of the web-wallet that uses the login and password as your private key, this is the obvious next step for usability. Most crypto enthusiasts would agree that not many wallets stand out from the rest, and tend to not be very user-friendly. There focus on this has always shown to me the passion for wanting to make a currency that people will actually want to use!
