Scarfies, Snarlers, and Kiwis oh my!

The first city of New Zealand has been conquered: Dunedin! After the long day of flying, cramped leg room, and airplane food, we could not have been happier to land in beautiful Dunedin.

Located by the coast, it sits in the middle of rolling green hills and mountains. We freshened up at our hotel, The Garden Motel, and proceeded to a local park where Sian treated the group to a traditional Snarler dinner. (Sausages) We cooked and ate in the park, enjoying the fresh air, sun, and scenery.

Day two included a walking tour around downtown Dunedin. We saw cathedrals, the train station, and numerous architectural sites. After this, we journeyed to the University of Otago for class. We got our course introduction, class themes, and first assignment: The scavenger hunt.

Groups of 4 to 5 were to search around Dunedin for cultural, innovative, and key elements of the city. After the task was finished, we were to put together a presentation.

Each group had a blast running around Dunedin. The rest of the day was spent putting together the presentations back at the hotel.

When Saturday came, we all woke up early to hammer out the presentations and prepare for the day. We arrived at Innov8 HQ, a coworking space in Dunedin. Here we interacted with the founder, Heidi, and gave our presentations.

After successful presentations, the group was ready to do something fun. The majority of the class headed to St. Kilda’s beach to catch some rays and coastal beauty.

We ate our lunch on the beach, soaking up all the sun we could get. Most of us were just happy to put our feet in hot sand!

After, we were all pretty tired, ending the day together downtown eating food and relaxing. We all knew we had a long bus ride to Queenstown the next morning.

After Queenstown, we will have another update!!
