Kaduna pacesetter in SDG implementation — El-Rufai

Governor of Kaduna State Nasir El-Rufai says the is one first. to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Nigeria.

El-Rufai, who spoke at the Kaduna State SDGs acceleration conference on Development Vision and Aspiration of Kaduna State within the context of the SDGs and the 2030’, said his administration had made progress by adopting the SDGs targets and indicators as well as investing in data that allows the government to know where it is coming from and what we has been achieved so far.

El-Rufai, who laid the foundation for the Amina Mohammed SDGs Data Lab Building, said he inherited a school enrolment rate stagnant at 1.1 million pupils, with at least 50 percent of pupils taking lessons on the floor because of lack of furniture in June 2015 with 4,200 public primary schools in dehumanizing conditions.

The Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN),Amina Mohammed, said extreme poverty across the world in the last few years had remained high, the same way global hunger had increased.

She said climate change was threatening the actualization of the SDGs and called for a holistic approach that would actualize the SDGs.
