Meet Tom Kelvin-Smith.
Tom has recently joined Inspiretec as a New Business Sales Manager. Today we caught up with him to find out more.
Where have you worked previously?
Not too far away! I worked for Innovantage, a SaaS provider to the recruitment industry based in one of the offices at Abacus House and is run by Richard Turner.
What do you enjoy about working in the tech sector?
It’s ever changing; things we take for granted today were only in the imagination of a select few not so long ago. There’s always a different way of resolving a problem or enhancing the product offering. Which means you’re always being challenged and learning.
How did you get into working in this sector?
I fell into it a little, really. I left University 3 years ago and didn’t know what I wanted to do. Found myself with a couple of opportunities and the Innovantage one stood out as one to get involved in technology/software. That appealed to me as a good sector to get involved in, even if I wasn’t too sure on a career path as yet.
How do you keep your knowledge/skills up to date?
I usually come across a new speaker/author every now again from watching interviews on YouTube or TED Talks. It takes a while to sift through the less interesting ones, but every now and then someone will stand out to me, then I’ll go buy some books written by them or on the subjects that they’re talking about. The latest one is Simon Sinek.
Do you have any hobbies/how do you relax?
I (try to) enjoy going to the gym. A good spin class in the morning sets me up for the day. I love the ocean and I’m a qualified scuba diving instructor. Although I don’t teach anymore, I still enjoy traveling to new places and exploring the underwater world as well as the sights on dry land.
What attracted you to Inspiretec?
I was looking for a new challenge and an opportunity to experience a bigger company, different industry and a new product offering.
