The National Pledge was written in Telugu 60 years ago by Pydimarri Venkata Subba Rao (1916–1988). It is treated on par with the National Anthem and the National Song.
The then Education Minister of AP directed all the school students to take the pledge every day. The Government of India had it translated and made it compulsory for school students in the country to take it every day. The author was unaware of this till he heard his granddaughter read it out from her book.
