Interim Spaces is a ‘meanwhile use’ charity founded in 2016, unlocking opportunity in otherwise disused buildings to showcase and support the work of emerging and low-income talent, by way of low-cost work and development space and event and performing arts platforms.
The charity achieves this by creating a competitive vacant property management solution for landlords that protects, maintains, and reduces vacant holding costs on buildings awaiting sale or redevelopment, offers considerable savings on business rates, and deters vandalism and trespass.
During 2016–17 we ran and completed our first project at a Portman Estate owned building, supported by Westminster City Council, providing low-cost workspaces for 13 theatre and textile designers. We are currently in discussion for several more opportunities with major landlords in London and Bristol.
At this exciting point of our growth, we are looking to introduce experienced specialists as board members in the following fields:
- Commercial property law
- Commercial asset management
- Charity fundraising
- Charity leadership and governance
- Workspace and startup sector
- Performing Arts sector
We are also seeking experienced trustees.
Statutory Duties of a Trustee
- To ensure that the organisation complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations;
- To ensure that the organisation pursues its objectives as defined in its governing document;
- To ensure the organisation uses its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects for the benefit of the public;
- To contribute actively to the board of trustees’ role in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets
- To safeguard the good name and values of the organisation;
- To ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation including having appropriate policies and procedures in place;
- To ensure the financial stability of the organisation;
- To protect and manage the assets of the charity and to ensure the proper investment of the charity’s funds;
- To follow proper and formal arrangements for the appointment, supervision, support, appraisal and remuneration of the chief executive.
- Is committed to the organisation and has sufficient time and willingness to contribute effectively to board proceedings;
- Willingness to devote the necessary time and effort;
- Good, independent judgment;
- Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of Trusteeship;
- Self-motivated and enthusiastic about the organisation.
