Sourcing European hardwoods…

From the panelling in the House of Commons to the Palace of Westminster and even Norwich Cathedral, oak timber has been used in construction for centuries and has been proven to be a diverse and strong building material.

As well as being exceptionally durable, oak is also very beautiful and can be used to great effect around the home. Whether transformed into an oak dining table or as a kitchen worktop or cupboards, oak offers great aesthetical appeal, adds character and lasts a long time.

Oak is the most widely used European hardwood and the construction timber of choice for joiners, furniture makers and other trades people.

With a wide range of appearances, oak can offer knotty, flat sawn with flame figure, straight grained rift figure, burry, quarter sawn ray figure or ‘silver grain’, clear or pippy finishes! Thanks to its versatility, demand for oak has grown and while in times past most of the oak used was native, demand is now such that European oak is now sourced sustainably from the Forests of Croatia, France and Germany.

To meet our customers’ demands, here at International Timber we stock a comprehensive range of oak products and offer custom solutions for those special projects.

In addition to oak, our hardwood range also includes:

Beech: Used for fire doors, furniture, painted joinery, wood ware and shop fittings, our beech range is available in steamed (pink), un steamed (white) or natural. We have developed CnD beech (Colour no Defect ) in a dimension stock ideal for door manufacturing with an excellent fire rating. Mixed thicknesses in half or direct loads to our customer base for Germany, France, Italy can be delivered.

Ash: A durable and pliable material, ash has traditionally been used for coach building but it can also be used with great effect for furniture making. We can supply in a natural mixed colour or selected white or olive.

Available to order we offer: Maple, chestnut, walnut, elm, sycamore and even hornbeam, a traditional wood used for weaving shuttles, windmill cog-wheel teeth and butcher’s blocks.
