I think you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what is available in open-source and what is available in Google’s labs.

Just because the source code is available does not mean the trained models are made available. Google certainly open sources some of their models, but a majority of them remain under lock-and-key.

AI can be threatening without even having the capability of general intelligence. Self-driving vehicles don’t have general intelligence, but the consider that 1 in every 15 employed in the U.S. is in the driving business. That’s a real threat to the economy.
