When I try to blend these two (as in, write about stuff I don’t know from inside, but apply unique twists from my own experiences) the most difficult thing is to find the right voice for it. Do I make is sound to dull because of too much new information? Do I make it sound unprofessional, because I try to make it funny? Is it stuffed with too much new terminology? Is it explained too childish? Etc., etc., It doesn’t get any easier. :)
