The day I stopped WOW

WOW… World of Warcraft. The MMORPG (Multimedia Online Role Playing Game) that had up to 12 million subscribers at it’s peak. The drug also known as World of Crackcraft… After 6 long years of play, almost daily, sometimes up to 8 hours during my weekend days… I cast thee off.

It’s not the 1st time i stop playing WOW. Actually it’s my 10th time. The longest i stopped using err… playing was 2 months. This time, I am cutting the cord cold turkey. Deleted my game files, closed my account and losing the password to go back.

Why? … Why after putting so much time in something one would say NO MORE? There are several reasons…let’s explore the non-family ones.

  1. The content is redundant. Level your character up to top level (100 at the time of this blog writing) then, focus on getting geared so you can do raids… after that raid raid raid…. when you are tired to raid, then what? Especially when the rest of the game doesn’t appeal to you (PVP, Pet battles, etc…)
  2. You make friends…and they quit. Yeah… in 6 years, i had plenty of that… people that got sick of WOW and left.
  3. Not even the latest announced content coming in a year or so sound fun…. more of the same grind…
  4. Some features that were fun disappear (like the ability to stun lock people or mobs) helping you in getting through content
  5. The game is getting easier to play but more elitist for the fun stuff
  6. There are no challenges… Literally, you can go through content nowadays without ever really knowing how your abilities work… basically just SMASH the keyboard
  7. No more flight on new content. I mean really? You are going to make me go through a set of daily quests for weeks just to be able to fly in the new zones? What about the fuckin 25000 gold i spent getting the vial of sands? That becomes useless?
  8. Lastly… after more than 17 years of playing the MMORPG genre… i got sick of it. Sick of the grind, sick of the trolls, sick of the quests, sick of the gear upgrades, sick of it all…

I’m way overdue to spend time with people around me….not online half a world away.
