You’re view is definitely flawed. There surely is merit in seeing something ‘Live’. Why do people go to see a musician or musical group ‘Live’ when they can just sit home and listen to an album? Getting the feeling of a room and talking to the other people who attended the same event gives one perspective. By just reading what took place is putting your developing opinion at risk by having to believe the author’s perspective as truth.
Yes, you can also watch a video of an event as well, but that doesn’t give someone an opportunity to get feedback on what you just heard. How can a question be answered in real time to a statement just made? Via email days later? It’s that back & forth, questions and answers that help each of us build our own opinions.
Recent generations have made us into a society of voyeurs who avoid personal interaction, the opposite of the world Richard Dreyfus and I grew up in. And to that end, those that prefer to see and hear things from afar tend to justify their actions as methodical & correct and vilify those that still go about their business the way we were taught…up close and in person.
People of our generation were taught to live life, not to just observe it.
