I’m physically embarrassed for CNN right now; or why I turned off the presidential debate

OPINION| Eighteen minutes. All I made it through was 18 minutes of the first debate between Pres. Joe Biden and convicted felon Donald Trump.

People pretending that he doesn’t have a criminal sentencing in about two weeks for nearly three dozen criminal counts is flooring. He is not a regular “presidential candidate,” unless regular candidates are barred from doing business in the state of New York and owe $83.3 million for defamation.

So yes, all of that preceding the reverence with which they announced him as the 45th “president” did give me a case of the cringies. The fact that everyone pretended the rules about turning off microphones due to interruptions wasn’t because of Trump, also a dose of ick. As I said on Spoutible, Kindergarten Rules.

But no, the real embarrassment oozed from the pores of CNN, once an actual news organization with real news, having no problem with Trump using it to spew lie after lie after lie.

I can’t tell you how many he told in those 18 minutes, in the actual time allotted to him. He lied about the economy he left; he claimed that Pres, Biden implemented COVID mandates when the fact that time moves in one direction contradicts that; he claimed that his bacchanal tax cuts sped the…
