Sometimes you don’t want plot or character or details to follow. Sometimes you want the TV to do the work for you. Maybe even funny work for you, but not all that thinky.

Enter British panel shows.

They’re kind of game shows, but instead of regular people playing for “cash and prizes,” they’re populated by mostly comedians and if there’s anything to win, you probably don’t want it.

Not all of them make it over here, much to my immense sadness. Come on, Acorn and Britbox, get with it! But here, for your weekend binge, are three you can reliably find. I saved my favorite for last.

“Taskmaster”

In this show created and written by Alex Horne and staring Greg Davies, five celebrities accumulate points over the course of a season by completing tasks set by Davies. Usually the results are hilarious.

Some people are far more ingenious and inventive than others; some are really never not funny. All are wildly entertaining.

Probably the biggest lesson you’ll take from this show is that you’re glad that neither Alex Horne nor Greg Davies ever assigns you any tasks. Amusing and low effort on your part…how do you resist?

Where to watch: YouTube; some seasons available on Pluto TV for free with ads.
