Getting Noticed as a Game Artist
So… Getting Noticed…
What do I know about getting noticed, but I don’t mean in Public. Like Oh man, how do I get people to see me but I blend into the background. NO! I don’t know how to do that yet. We are talking about getting seen as an artist.
Alright, so some sites that I like are a nice place to start and delivering content on a regular basis but, I really wouldn’t say these are places that’ll give you a ton of attention.
Artstation
In college, I was always told, go on Artstation. Which is fine. That kinda works, but without a Pro Membership, you won’t be getting noticed anytime soon.
Sketchfab
Sketchfab! I love Sketchfab. Sketchfab is an excellent 3D model viewer, but its really great as a portable 3D model viewer. I like it when people ask me “Oh what do you do?” and I respond “what do I do?” and I take out my phone with Sketchfab on it with a model that I loaded before I left my house so I could show em immediately after they asked.
These sites are great but after 3 years of doing my best to get the most minimal exposure, they’ve become nothing but supplemental to the method that is much viable than both these combined.
And it is the reason I wrote this.
Now wait… Hear me out. Reddit is a lot of things, but the most important thing is that it is a great place to share. Post on Artstation, post on twitter, post on Sketchfab post everywhere. SHARE ON REDDIT.
People will see you. People will find what they are looking for on Reddit. Within a day, I had quite a few job offers. None of which I took because I have a very project going on right now. People can find Developers, Developers can find artist and artists can find people that want to see their stuff. It is an excellent ecosystem and is one built off sharing.
And if you are looking for a place to start and want to meet artist, developers and even get exclusive updates on my game Codename Project Kentoshi, join my new Subreddit. r/projectkentoshi
Lets talk, show me your work and follow my Artstation and Sketchfab
also, twitter, twitter is cool. I post art and memes there. I don’t wanna toot my own horn, but I’m pretty funny.
See ya next time.
