As content creators, COVID-19 presents its own peculiar challenges as it is no longer business as usual. We need to be creative and innovative with our content while remaining ethical and showing empathy. Here is my bible; 10 commandments of creating content on COVID-19.

  1. Thou shall not be a copycat. A photocopy is never the same as the original so get inspired by the work of others and put your own spin on it.
  2. Thou shall not trivialise. This is not the time to make jokes and find humour in a situation that has caused so much pain, death and loss.
  3. Thou shall not spread fake news. Only share information from trusted and verified sources.
  4. Thou shall not fold hand and looku looku. Don’t sit on the fence and be watching others while you keep quiet.
  5. Thou shall not force the content calendar. A better approach is to adapt the content calendar to the new realities or create a new one entirely.
  6. Thou shall not trend for trending sake. Don’t jump on a COVID-19 hashtag to promote unrelated things.
  7. Thou shall not forget that it is the World Wide Web. While you are creating local content, remember that it will be consumed globally.
  8. Thou shall not dilly dally with timelines. If you wait too long in putting out content, it can easily become dated as things are changing so fast.
  9. Thou shall not forget thy conscience. This is the time to be ethical and show empathy.
  10. Thou shall not forget thyself. Don’t become what you’re not because it is the new fad…COVID-19 too shall pass.

And a bonus 11. Thou shall not disobey any of the commandments.
