“All good things on Earth are going to kill you”

Burger and fries on the sidewalk, a surprisingly busy street and chilling weather. Everything felt a bit like Christmas, when street lights are turned on at 6 pm and it’s pitch black outside. The shops are busy, although it’s only a Wednesday night. In October. We are waiting for a movie to start (it’s the second screening we planned for today, purist cinema disciples), and — as always - complaining about how unfair “it” is.

What “it” means, I’m still not really sure, but the take-away is:

All good things are deadly.

And I’m suspecting my friend could be right. Burgers, cigarettes, even (or especially) human connection, your deepest passions… They all kill you day by day. If you’re lucky, it even feels good.

We either compromise or we don’t, but the outcome is the same. And the aftermath is that the ones you knew are going to be sad for a while (or for the rest of their lifetime) but they will also keep moving, finding new ways to get hurt. And I don’t know why it’s worth it or how is it possible for someone to want to kill oneself and cling to life as desperately as I do, all at the same time.

I just know that it’s colder and darker, and I have a peculiar friend who likes to walk and doesn’t talk too much. And I’m glad to have some company tonight.
