One year as an alter Twitter user

This month, I marked the first anniversary of my alter Twitter account — which is the one connected to this post.

Before continuing further, you may be asking, “What do you mean by ‘alter’?” We all know that social media allows people to maintain alternate identities, and through the “alter system,” users maintain accounts without revealing their true identities. We do it by concealing our faces in pictures, or sometimes just our eyes.

Anyway, why am I here in the first place? Is this account really an alternate version of myself? And lastly, what am I getting here so far?

To start off, I’ve been chatting with alter users even before I created one. In fact, several people know who I really am. It just felt weird for me to be chatting with alter users using a legitimate account. And then, it was also becoming increasingly hard for me to resist the temptation to watch, retweet, and like porn stuff there.

Of course, while I can manage to sneak in sex-themed posts in my legit account from time to time, I wanna stretch my boundaries. And given my status as an educator and writer, that’s something I couldn’t do without raising alarm bells among those who know me professionally. Case in point: imagine what my students would think if I post, “I wanna be banged tonight!”

Having said that, I don’t think this alter account really presents an alternate version of myself. To be honest, it’s more a platform for me to show a side of me express that are frowned upon by society. Let’s face it, people do not openly talk about wanting to have sex to others, even if it’s one of the main physiological needs of humans. How much more if you’re gay, right?

In my one year here, I’ve been very fortunate to meet a lot of people. Some became SOP partners and fuck buddies, while several of them, I consider now as my personal friends. Without them, the past twelve months there on alter won’t be as exciting!
