This is the first time that the bucket has landed on African shores and for Cape Town to have been acknowledged is a huge accomplishment for South Africa as Dribbble has become a go-to resource for discovering and connecting with designers around the globe.
The Award was first given to the Austin Dribbble Community in 2013–2014 and last year it was awarded to the Washington DC Dribbble Community.
“We’ve loved watching Cape Town’s enthusiasm for Dribbble and Dribbble Meetups over the past year,” says Alison Harshbarger from the Dribbble headquarters in Salem, Massachusetts. “Isoflow has planned consistently awesome Dribbble Meetups with fantastic speakers and a welcoming community. They are very deserving of this year’s Silver Bucket.”
Dribbble is a platform for web designers, graphic designers, illustrators, icon artists, typographers, logo designers and other creative types to showcase their work, process and current projects. Dribbble Meetups are a chance for designers to socialise, talk shop, and foster their local design communities. In 2015 Isoflow organised the first South African Dribbble Meetup in Cape Town.
We’re ecstatic to be selected as the winners amongst so many global Dribbble communities. We have thoroughly enjoyed the Dribbble platform and have found that so many other designers in our local community also use Dribbble to showcase their work, get feedback from the design community and market their skills. We value being exposed to the work of other talented designers, not just in South Africa, but around the world.
Throughout the Dribbble meetups, we’ve learnt from speakers about design processes and techniques in areas such as illustration, animation and typography. Speakers at our recent meetups include: Yoco, BitX, Am I Collective, MUTI, Made By Radio, Arcade, Luke Ritchie, Over… and we’re only just getting started.
Cape Town’s Dribbble Meetups are known for their free beer and pizza, as well as cash prizes for the analogue playoff competitions, which has only been possible thanks to the generous sponsors.
We look forward to many more Cape Town meetups. A big thank you to Dan and Rich from Dribbble for their world-class platform, the ongoing support from their team and the great swag they keep sending our way. Despite being at the tip of Africa, Dribbble allows us to stay connected to the global design community.
