It’s On Us Launches New Initiatives to Engage Campus Administrators

This blog is a guest post by Robin Kaler, Associate Chancellor for Public Affairs at The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

This week, I had the honor of introducing Vice President Joe Biden as more than 200 college administrators from across the country joined a conversation on how to stop sexual assault by harnessing the resources and support of the It’s On Us campaign.

Some of these schools have been actively involved since Vice President Biden launched the program in 2014. Others are just beginning to explore how participating in this program can change the trajectory of their efforts to stop sexual assault at colleges and universities.

At Illinois, our Student Affairs professionals have led the nation in education and support programs. Still, we discovered quickly that by partnering with It’s On Us and with our students, we could raise awareness and build an even stronger culture of support and intervention.

We recently completed a campus climate survey, and this fall, we are excited to partner again with It’s On Us to act on what we learned in the survey.

As a university administrator, and as the mother of two Illinois students who took the pledge and who benefit from the It’s On Us effort, I want to thank Vice President Biden for his work to build It’s On Us as a national movement, and for taking the time to continue to champion this issue by advancing the dialogue and traveling across the country to encourage more students to take the It’s On Us pledge. To date, 6,300 of our students have taken the pledge. Four thousand of them did so in conjunction with the Vice President’s visit to our campus.

Together, we will work to ensure that students support each other, speak out for each other and understand how to access the resources our Student Affairs, police and other university professionals provide.

It’s On Us, all of us.
