I’m not advocating taking money from the players and giving it back to the owners, that’s not the point. The point is, this article (and many like it) are written in a manner suggesting that Kevin Durant is going to suffer because he’s taking 20 million instead of 25 million, like he’s going to have to make a choice between buying groceries or paying his rent. What is the difference when you make 20 million? Is he gonna buy a 3rd beach house or a 2nd gulfstream jet? Kevin Durant and all his descendants will never have to work a day in their lives from now until eternity. It’s not a labor vs. management issue (I’m a Twins fan, we have quite possibly the worst owners in all of professional sports, I’m not taking ownership’s side.) I’m just really tired of reading endless articles complaining about “deserved” salaries for people who could lose 5 million dollars in their couch cushions and not even realize it. Professional athletes at the highest level have nothing in common with the people reading and commenting on these articles, but yet we act like Durant is being taken advantage of like a retail worker making 9 dollars an hour. This whole conversation is frankly ludicrous.
