Big Tech is Headed for Regulation, Whether it Likes it or Not.
Blair Reeves

You do understand that strong encryption is free and readily available. I can encrypt my phone data with a 3erd party app and there is nothing that can be done by google or apple about that. They could bypass their own security but if after doing so they find my data and it’s encrypted by me, it is out of their hands.

You can not make laws restricting math and you would have to in order for you to stop people from writing their own encryption. Apple and others know all of this and that is one reason why they resist attempts at breaking phone security. If they go around breaking their own security, the damage to their reputations would be total and would never stop truly determined people from keeping data out of law enforcement's hands.
