A list

This will have been written in about 30 minutes when it’s published, so that I’m not spoiled by the first weekend of games having been played. My rationale for my rankings is based primarily upon two factors: a) the club’s summer transfer window to date, and b) how the club finished the 2021–2022 season.

  1. Liverpool — Time for a new team at the top. Nunez in for Mane. If they stay healthy, why not them?
  2. Manchester City — I think the period of adjustment for Haaland will hold them back. Also, they are thin at left-back with the departure of Zinchenko.
  3. Tottenham — Conte seems to have gotten the players and the preseason he wanted. With the squads below them equal at best, their top-four manager should elevate them to third.
  4. Arsenal — The squad has improved. But will Arteta keep them on track? To be determined. The experience of Jesus and Zinchenko should be positive, at the very least.
  5. Chelsea — This is the pick I have the least confidence in among the top 6. But Chelsea also feel very unpredictable.
  6. Manchester United — 6th is the minimum expectation for this squad. But they could drop below West Ham and Newcastle and I wouldn’t be shocked.
  7. West Ham United
  8. Newcastle
  9. Leicester City
  10. Aston Villa
  11. Crystal Palace
  12. Leeds United
  13. Wolves
  14. Everton
  15. Brighton
  16. Nottingham Forest
  17. Southampton
  18. Brentford
  19. Fulham
  20. Bournemouth

Time expired before I could comment on all of my picks. They have been set at 9:22 EST on 8/6/22, as Fulham v. Liverpool is wrapping up. Already things are looking off. I look forward to revisiting these predictions during the World Cup break!
