Who’s a Game of Thrones fan?
Don’t worry, no spoilers here.
I will share one of my favorite GoT quotes, though. (And it’s WAY back from Season 1.)
Bran: “Can a man still be brave if he’s afraid?”
Ned: “That is the only time a man can be brave.”
The only time anyone can be brave is when they’re afraid.
I’ll give you a few seconds to process that…
And now I have a few questions for you:
Are you brave enough to fire one of your team members?
Are you brave enough to ask your boss to help you get a 35% raise?
Are you brave enough to tell your CEO that core business strategies aren’t working and you’d like to fix them?
If you are, you just might have what it takes to command a $200k+ salary as a technical leader.
Because it means you’re willing to be afraid.
It means you’re willing to look fear in the eye and say, “I’m not going to let you stop me. This is too important.”
It means you’re willing to take action that’s going to stretch the boundaries of your comfort zone and re-define your potential as a leader.
We don’t add more value by playing small and staying comfortable.
So if you want to continue your comfortable conversations about status updates, complain that folks in other departments don’t know what they’re doing, and keep waiting for someone else to do the hard thing …
…commanding a premium salary is not for you.
If you finally want to build a thriving, high-performing team who scores win after win while you all receive the recognition and rewards you deserve as a badass tech team…
