Summary Ch. 2
The transformation from print to online work is something that we have had the opportunity to see first hand. Chapter 2 really gave real life statistics that proves that the digital life, while massive now is only the beginning of what the future holds for us. Tablets were vital to this as the chapter mentioned that more than half the U.S. that has a cellphone is a smartphone or tablet user. It is very interesting being a journalist, but also being part of public opinion, how much the public can say/ disrespect a journalist for something that they just do not agree with. That is a negative of the public having so much leeway to respond to reports, but it also has its upside as well. News media online continues to take away from the traditional journalist, and that is on thing that is interesting to be able to live through this time to see how much longer the traditional ways of writing can hold on. The web brings a factor that traditional cannot match, and that is the fact that online can post and update 24 hours a day, up to the minute coverage. That is so vital in the society we live in today as so many people are constantly researching information. Not only do professionals post online, the public can post online and break news stories more than ever before, and I am living that first hand. With the aspect of online development the past few years it has allowed for so many jobs, paid or not for journalist to really get their feet wet in the field of journalism.
This chapter really hits home for me because I have founded my own sports website and am constantly trying to break news stories even before ESPN, CBS and NBC can break the story. Sports Journalism is such a special field to be able to grow in now and I am excited for what the future holds.
