Keep it Simple.

Why does the world have to be so complicated?

Keep it simple. We’ve all heard it before. Probably even used this phrase before. Still nobody really understands what an essential truth it is. Keeping things simple can be applied to basically everything.

I want to explain why keeping it simple is a magic tool to progress in Digital Transformation.

For some of us one of the great advantages of today’s technology is the ability to purchase anything you can imagine online and on the go. Anything – anywhere. But when recently purchasing something from my phone I got disappointed: after trying to finish my order several times, I realized that I was only able to complete an order by switching to a desktop which I did not have access to at that point. This made me want to shout out loudly: WHY DOES THE WORLD HAVE TO BE SO COMPLICATED?

When we build systems, when we develop products – when we innovate, we tend to create solutions that totally let out the wants and needs of those we want to use our systems, products and innovations. This is a big mistake.

Instead we need to start thinking ahead and thinking about what really matters. Also it is crucial that when innovating and developing new applications or solutions, we adjust to what is already given. If you would have made somebody ride an autonomous car in the early 20th century, he simply would not have been ready for it. It may seem like then we could have been so much further in progression by now. But successful development and placement of technologies needs time. Time for people to accept the new and adapt it in their daily usage.

Considering the users and adjusting to what is already given will make the world less complicated eventually. So, when you innovate, when you create, when you develop: keep it simple.
