As Victor wrote “He argues that there really isn’t any “authentic” culture and he cites the example of food culture. He illustrates that many cuisines in the world actually borrow from ingredients that were not native to that people group.”. This is indeed an interesting point, what is authentic here? Could we regard Chinese dishes served in American restaurant, which we called Americanlized Chinese dishes, authentic Americalized Chinese dishes? Besides, how about fusion dishes? Do we have authentic fusion dishes? In short, authentic is an interesting world in such a world with frequent exchange of material and idea.
Another interesting inspiration I got after reading this chapter is the phenomenon of globalization. Of course now, or actually from time to time, there are anti-globalization actions happening is certain place on Earth, it may not be as strong as a wave. In recent two years, in Europe, especially, nationalist appeared to regain a little bit of strength. I am not sure our world is going towards a more unified world or a more diverse world. What is the role of modern technology in shaping the direction the world?
Regarding the role of money, or more generally speaking, the role of economics in driving human world, single currency of Euro has been facing great challenges for years. Same question arises again, would the world of Europa be unified under single currency 10 years later? Another question that we should asked is what is the foundation behind single currency? Should not be the same culture, so diverse in Europe; should not the same language, so many different kinds; should not be economic performance, a few countries stand out so easily than other member countries. Then what is that? Europe is indeed an interesting example to let us gauge the direction of human world, since it has already been experimenting a unified system, at least partially, and economically for years, not politically nor religiously, which is far more demanding and could be bloody.
