As with Steve Jobs, I can’t help wondering what one ought to learn from Andy Grove. Is it a case of “Do as I say, not as I do”? According to the New York Times obituary, Grove was named “one of the country’s toughest bosses” by Fortune magazine, and an Intel colleague said his management style “was to hit you over the head with a two-by-four.” I recognize the overall success that Grove achieved, as I recognize what Jobs achieved, but how much of their style does one want to imitate or see imitated?
