Re “the difference between a biker and a cyclist,” I share your view: when I hear the word “biker,” I think of someone who frequents a biker bar, i.e., a motorcyclist. Unfortunately, according to entries in the Merriam-Webster and American Heritage dictionaries, “biker” can mean either a cyclist or a motorcyclist. So I can’t say Heather is wrong. On the other hand, given the dual meanings of “biker,” writers would do better to say explicitly which they mean.
