Making It Local
This week was fantastic in terms of connections. Recently the wonderful Miss. Helmbock from the Citizens Action Coalition connected me with one of the directors at Duke Energy, who was willing to help me on my project. He invited me down to Plainfield to speak with their lighting team about the feasibility of installing new lighting fixtures that are dark sky friendly in Noblesville, and get advice on some of the more technical aspects of my project.
Hopefully this will all go well (and I can find my way to Plainfield in the first place, because I’m terrible with directions), and it will strengthen my case. I also plan on getting in touch with more officials in my community and working on spreading the news about light pollution with the public.
The WISH TV news team also came to visit us this past Wednesday, and did a segment on our class featuring two of my classmates, Cassidy Uhl and Zack Baker. I expect that this will provide excellent publicity for all of my peers and the future of the Innovations class.
Next week I expect to spend most of my time working on narrowing the research I’ve been doing for the past two months down to apply it to a local setting. I’m counting on support from enlightened government officials to be open to my project as a way to improve the community for all its residents, human and amphibian.
