4 Takeaways from the first day of Philadelphia Eagles Training Camp.
Philadelphia Eagles Rookies and selected Veterans took the field at the Nova Care Complex on Monday for Day 1 of Training Camp.

This has been arguably one of the most anticipating off season’s for the Philadelphia Eagles. One of the major reasons being quarterback Carson Wentz’s second season under center for the Eagles. The young veteran took the field on Monday with his rookies and other selected veterans to officially kick off training camp.
Although the Eagles are no longer holding practices in Lehigh Valley open to the public, we happen to be living in the great day and age of social media! The Philadelphia media are granted access to watch the Eagles practice so the public can still get all the news coming from the Nova Care Complex. Here are 4 of the biggest headlines coming from day one of training camp.

1. Rookie receivers inherited a bad habit.
Remember screaming at your television last year because DGB, Jordan Matthews or Agholor dropped another perfectly placed pass? Well apparently those bad trends continued on Monday at practice for the young guys.
Rookies, Mack Hollins and Shelton Gibson were spotted dropping several passes during 7-on-7 and individual drills. Hollins was praised for his catching abilities in OTA’s, but he must of had it rough on Monday. Apparently he dropped down and did push-ups for every ball he dropped. I am not sure how many push-ups that is exactly but I am curious to find out.
Gibson was another one who struggled catching. Apparently he had a drop or two during individual drills which raises some major red flags. This is tough to hear considering Gibson has already been called out several times during OTA’s about how much he struggled. The fifth round pick better get it together or else he will lose out to a practice squad warrior (what up, Paul Turner).

2. Jordan Matthews is still injured
It was about a month or two ago when we were told that Jordan Matthews would be limited in OTA’s due to knee tendinitis. Doug Pederson told the media that they are holding Matthews out to be safe and that he is fine and ready to go. Fast forward to week one of Eagles training camp and Jordan Matthews is still dealing with his rehabbing process.
It is rumored that he will be in attendance this week, but he will most likely be very limited. The medical staff is still confident that his injury is not serious, but I am not buying it. I understand limiting a veteran during OTA’s but they have now surpassed “limiting” Matthews. He hasn't been out practicing with the team in a helmet since Week 1 of OTA’s. For Matthews sake, he needs to be ready to go full speed on Thursday if he plans to secure a starting position in the slot.

3. Carson Wentz is still struggling with the deep ball
This was another frustrating thing to watch in last year’s passing game. At times, Wentz would display a nice touch on the deep ball. Other times he would be fairly inaccurate. Consistency is key when it comes to passing and Carson struggled big time last season with consistency.
In OTA’s this was still a big concern. It continued on Monday as Wentz overthrew his receivers from time to time. Now he didn't have his key receivers on the field, but it still raises some question marks on whether Wentz can improve his long passes or not. This will be a key thing to watch as training camp continues on this off season.

4. Sidney Jones is ready to learn, despite being out
Second-round selection, Sidney Jones made sure he was in attendance for his first NFL training camp ever. Unfortunately, he will not be able to practice at all this pre-season. He suffered a torn Achilles during his pro day before the draft, which automatically lowered his draft stock. Fortunately for the Eagles, they were able to get him in the second round, which could end up being a major value pick.
Although Jones cant practice, he still came on to the field ready to learn. Showing up in his practice jersey, shorts and some gloves, he looked like he was even going to get a light workout in. It is good to see a young rookie remain motivated while patiently waiting to get healthy again.
