If you want to be a VC, you should try being a founder first. There’s no better way to gain the skills and appreciation for actually creating value than to try your hand at it a few times. Any monkey can be taught finance: find someone building something big, who’s removed all risk, who does not understand liquidation preferences and ratchets, then rape him.
