Fellow leftists/progressives/liberals, we need to talk about “triggered” jokes. And I don’t mean “aww are the libet*rd snowflakes TRIGGERED kek” jokes… I mean “Haha, looks like this keklord is TRIGGERED” jokes; I mean using “triggered” to describe the impotent, childlike rage and hissyfits of conservatives.
Y’all need to stop it. Y’all need to stop it right fucking now. I get it, okay? I understand the urge to turn their words against them — to use their jokes to mock them because it takes away the sting but here’s the thing?
The problem with these jokes isn’t who they’re aimed at: it’s the content itself. Triggers aren’t a fucking joke, guys. They’re a real, serious issue that describe a number of negative/harmful behaviors in many mental illnesses. I get that you want to point out the hypersensitive, easily-offended behavior of a *lot* of the Right Wing but you need to do that in a way that *doesn’t* mock the mentally ill — that doesn’t throw PTSD sufferers under the bus.
The left needs to step up its support of mentally ill people, like, yesterday. By all means, call them easily offended snowflakes if you must: but leave triggers, leave the mentally ill, the fuck out of it.
Our struggles aren’t a fucking joke. They’re not comparable to Barbara throwing a fit because Starbucks put “Happy Holidays” on a red foam cup. Sobbing and trying not to throw up because a friend said the wrong word with the wrong tone at the wrong time and caused you to flashback to being raped? Not the same fucking thing. Not even the same ballpark. Not even the same fucking sport.
When you call these hissyfits being “triggered” you are contributing to the minimizing of the issues that mentally ill people face — you are hurting them just the same as the alt-right fuckhead making triggered jokes on 4CHAN. You’re doing the SAME THING. Don’t kid yourself and try to say “but I’m not saying it about mentally ill people!”
Then don’t use “triggered” to describe it. The word itself is already incredibly loaded thanks to people turning it into joke and you do not need to be adding to the issues.
Of course — I’m expecting neurotypical people to actually be decent allies and stop co-opting words and language that mentally ill people *need* to describe their experiences and to actually care about those experiences… SO I don’t expect anyone to actually sit down and listen. If you do, that’s great, here’s your cookie:

For the rest of you? Get fucked.
