In addition to the solo experience portrayed here, it is wonderful seeing women traveling together as strong, autonomous beings. The English woman’s advice also resonates with me, but I would add that traveling should just form one part of an overall process of embracing the aloneness that is the basis of human life — we are all essentially on our own and we can choose to be frightened by this, or we can overcome the fear and celebrate it. I chose the latter and travel has played a foremost role in this strengthening process.
