“the clinched fist of truth” is not, in fact, a tangible weapon..”
In terms of fighting the lies and bigotry of gun-control advocates, the truth has been extremely effective. Just look at the balance of court cases and laws passed in the last 20 years when it comes to anti-gun-control initiatives.
“Black Lives Matter even released their own video that beautifully illustrates the harm caused by such racist rhetoric.”
Whereas the racist rhetoric of BLM has resulted in actual harm, the deaths of police officers murdered by cowards steeped in the BLM rhetoric of violence, deceit, and stupidity. Good job holding up those that actually support known murders. Typical of gun-control lunacy now.
“The gun lobby has forever touted their down-home Southern roots as both a cause for loyalty and as a weapon against the “liberal elite.” And yes, the South does have higher rates of gun ownership. But the gun lobby has taken that as a sign that we are all on board with their dangerous brand of extremism. And it is a crucial mistake that will cost them.”
Really? Do you have any idea what a political minority you are, especially in Louisiana? You really think a group of uneducated gun-control zealots are going to make any changes to the laws in Louisiana? A state with the highest court standard test for any law touching on 2nd Amendment, a standard written into its state constitution in the last 5 years (Amendment 2 on the 2012 ballots, passed with 75%)
“They must have been shocked when my two-woman organization managed to defeat all of their priority legislation over the past two years.”
All of it? One piece that is just testing the waters now and will become law eventually. Listen honey, it wasn’t your little group as much as the those with vested interests in lining their coffers with the fees charged to CCW permit applications and holders.
Let’s make a short list of laws related to Louisiana CCW permits in just the last 4 years:
The passage of Act 84 of the 2013 Regular Legislative Session allows for the issuance of a lifetime concealed handgun permit.
The passage of Act 398 of the 2013 Regular Legislative Session ceases requirements for the registration of firearms as defined in LRS 40:1781.
The passage of Act 147 of the 2014 Regular Legislative Session amended and re-enacted R.S. 14:95.5 , relative to the possession of a firearm on the premises of an alcoholic beverage outlet.
Pursuant to Act 221 of the 2014 Legislative Session, approval from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms has been obtained and possession of a current and valid 5-year Louisiana Concealed Handgun Permit, issued on or after March 9, 2015 shall constitute sufficient evidence of the background check required pursuant to 18 U.S.C. 922(t) for the purchase of a firearm, and may be used in lieu of a NICS check.
“The NRA hasn’t been able to say that for a long time. The talking heads, the lawyers, the suits — none of them understand us.”
Why should they? A tiny, whiny minority doesn’t speak for even a significant fraction of Louisiana natives. You blame inanimate objects for the violence that permeates communities; statues, guns, and street signs. You will never have the honesty and integrity to place the blame where it rightfully belongs and that is why you will fail in your advocacy.
